WHAT TO BRING- 1 DAY MT. FUJI CLIMBs

Having the right equipment will greatly increase your comfort and chances for a successfully reaching the summit.

EQUIPMENT LIST

Having the right equipment will greatly increase your comfort and chances for a successfully reaching the summit.

Fuji Outdoor does offer rental equipment allowing you to travel lightly.

Mt Fuji is a big climb over rocky and rugged terrain. Mt Fuji is hard on gear and it is advised to have a pair of sturdy high-cut hiking boots which offer support, comfort and waterproofness.

Most of Mt Fuji will have loose rocks, for those with low and mid cut shoes gaiters will help prevent rocks from entering your shoes.

Wool or quick drying synthetic materials only! AVOID COTTON!

Rain jackets and Pants are a must given the volatility of the weather that can be found on Mt Fuji. Rain wear also acts as a wind breaker!

Quick drying synthetic materials only! AVOID COTTON (no jeans)!

Quick drying synthetic materials only! AVOID COTTON!

Although summertime Japan is hot in general, the higher elevations on Mt. Fuji will most likely be cold! Especially during the off-season (there may be some snow up there). It is advised to bring warm winter wear such as a fleece/ down or even a ski jacket!

The mountain huts we stay in are simple and can be cold at night. Baselayers can add to your comfort during the mountain hut stay as well as the early morning climb in the cold to the summit.

Warm waterproof gloves are recommended.

A warm hat for the cold

Can be purchased in most convenience store in Japan

Not only for the nighttime hiking before sunrise but will also be useful in the mountain huts!

Hiking Poles to take some of the pressure off your joints and also maintain a good rhythm. Alternatively, you can purchase a wooden hiking pole, a classic Mt. Fuji souvenir which you can get stamped at most huts up to the summit (only available during the official climbing season between July 10- September 9).

*each stamp costs roughly ¥300.

It is advised to have a comfortable hiking backpack with a waist belt to help distribute the weight of your pack to your hips.

On very rainy days, a backpack rain cover will not be enough to keep the contents of your backpack dry. You will be glad to have this extra measure of safety to keep warm layers, electronics and other essentials dry!

*During the off-season, there will be no opportunities to purchase anything on the mountain.  We will need to carry any food (including lunch), snacks and water for a 10 hour day!

3L tends to be a good amount of water to bring

For in-season tours, each mountain hut will provide an opportunity for you to purchase food or water (but bringing your own snacks is advised).

You must be responsible for the disposal of all of your trash! There will be no trash cans available on Mt Fuji, even at the mountain huts!

If you purchase an item at a mountain hut, that hut will accept whatever trash is produced. This will be the only exception.

Most huts on Mt Fuji will be largely cash based!

As there is no running water, the restrooms will also cost on avg ¥200 every time.

It will be a good idea to prepare ¥100 coins and ¥3000-5000 for additional food, snacks, water.

If you would like to purchase souvenirs on Mt Fuji, additional cash will be required.

There will be no power outlets at the mountain huts!

A portable charger/ powerbank will ensure your phone has enough power to caputre some great photos!

The first aid kits Mt. Fuji Guides/ Fuji Outdoor guides carry will be reserved for emergencies. Giving supplies away for small cuts etc, will take resources away for a true emergency.

Please bring a small first aid kit of bandaids, painkillers, wet wipes and any other personal medication you may need.
